Albany County residents can expect to hear emergency sirens sounding throughout the county Friday morning as emergency managers test the outdoor warning system.

The regularly scheduled test -- held at the same time on the first Friday of each month -- is set for 10 a.m. Sirens in Laramie, Centennial, Albany and Rock River will sound for a period of one to three minutes.

Again, the sirens you hear Friday are only a test. Were the sirens to sound in an actual emergency, residents should take cover immediately and tune into a local radio or television station for more emergency information.

In an actual emergency, people should refrain from calling 911 or local emergency officials to keep phone lines open so officials can conduct emergency operations.

More information about the outdoor warning system, including siren locations and answers to frequently asked questions, is available from the Albany County Emergency Manager at ema@co.albany.wy.us or 307-721-1815.
