For their annual campaign, the United Way of Albany County has set their biggest goal ever at $400,125.

"The $125 is a little nod to the fact that the United Way is 125 years old now," Executive Director Paul Heimer told KOWB. "It's grown to this really worldwide organization doing good locally here in Laramie and across the world."

Heimer reports that 99 percent of the funds raised through the United Way campaign will be used locally, supporting 14 non-profit organizations in Albany County.

"Laramie is a big family," commented Heimer. "All we're asking is a little bit of help taking care of your extended family. Everyone knows somebody that's been helped by a United Way agency. The agencies we support provide support really pre-cradle to grave."

Last year's annual campaign raised $410,000 for Albany County and Heimer believes they can better that mark this year. The United Way Campaign Co-Chairs for 2012 are Mary Burman and Charlie DeWolf, who hosted a kickoff of the campaign on Tuesday night at the Hilton Garden Inn.
