UW Sets Community Meetings on Presidential Search

Adam Porter, Townsquare Media

Wyoming residents have an opportunity to provide input on the search for the University of Wyoming’s next president in a series of public meetings around the state next week.

A representative of Greenwood/Asher and Associates, the consulting firm assisting UW with the presidential search, is scheduled to receive input at public meetings in Casper, Gillette, Sheridan, Cheyenne, Powell, Rock Springs, Torrington and Riverton.

Here’s the schedule:

Monday, Nov. 12

  • Casper — 1-2 p.m., Casper College, Wold Physical Sciences Building Room 103.
  • Gillette — 4-5 p.m., Gillette College, Technical Education Center flex space.
  • Sheridan — 7-8 p.m., Sheridan College, Whitney Building Room 136.

Tuesday, Nov. 13

  • Cheyenne — 8-9 a.m., Little America Cheyenne Room.
  • Powell — noon-1 p.m., Northwest College, Fagerberg Building Room 70.
  • Rock Springs — 4-5 p.m., Holiday Inn Pilot Butte Room.

Wednesday, Nov. 14

  • Torrington — 8-9 a.m., Eastern Wyoming College, Fine Arts Lecture Hall.
  • Riverton — 11 a.m.-noon, Central Wyoming College, Intertribal Education and Community Center Room 116.

Greenwood/Asher and Associates has conducted successful presidential searches for institutions including the University of Florida, the University of Texas, Ohio State University, New Mexico State University and West Virginia University.

The firm will recruit candidates and accept applications for the job of UW president, which is being vacated by President Tom Buchanan at the end of summer 2013. It also will conduct background checks, check references and perform other duties associated with the search.

Once the firm has compiled a list of applicants, it will be presented to an initial screening committee to narrow the candidates to at least 12. That list will then be forwarded to a second screening committee, which is charged with trimming the candidate pool to at least five finalists by about Jan. 24.

The committees are composed of UW trustees, faculty, staff, students and alumni, along with a member of the UW Foundation Board, a state legislator, a community college president and representatives of several Wyoming industries.

The entire Board of Trustees will interview each finalist and then select the new president. The board plans to introduce the new president by Feb. 27.
