University of Wyoming students and other participants, young and old, kicked off their labor day weekend with the UW Mp3 Experience last Friday.

People who signed on for the MP3 Experience were asked to download a specific free Mp3 off of the internet, and meet in a designated area at a specific time with a portable Mp3 player in hand.  At a synchronized time everyone was asked to play the Mp3 and follow the set of recorded instructions.

Brad Kovach, the web developer at the University of Wyoming bookstore, says that the mix of instructions and music included activities like coloring, taking a nap, blowing bubbles, a dance off, and finally a performance of Ragtime Cowboy Joe on over 100 kazoos.  After the activities in the Mp3 experience, participants were able to take part in a carnival in Prexy's Pasture with lazer tag, a live DJ, and a bubble-foam filled dance pit.

Kovach was the Mp3 Experience organizer, he says that as a bookstore employee he pitched the idea of an "Mp3 flash mob" to his supervisors.   "I pitched the idea to my bosses, I have great bosses, and they said 'yeah, let's do it.'"

Although no official headcount was taken, at least 150 individuals participated in the Mp3 Experience, and Kovach said he was pleased, "I think it went really well, there are a couple thinks we could improve for the future, but I'm really stoked about the outcome."

Kovach goes on to say that this is the first Mp3 experience that UW is thrown, and he says it might me the first of many similar annual events.
