Six Cowboys Win Buckles at Jubilee Days Junior Bull Riding
The stock out-did the cowboys and cowgirls at Wednesday’s Junior Bull Riding during Laramie Jubilee Days at the Albany County Fairgrounds.
There were 58 competitors in six different age divisions that competed for buckles and tried to help their qualification to the Junior Nationals Rodeo in Las Vegas this December. That event runs the same time for youth at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
The total number of rides Wednesday night was 12.
The lowest three divisions must ride their stock for six seconds in order to get a score.
In the Mutton Bustin the only qualified ride belonged to Laramie’s Wyatt Nacey, who rode a sheep to a 73-point score.
The PeeWee Mini’s also had one qualified ride. That came from Wheatridge, CO cowboy Brody Fisbeck. He posted a 75.
The Junior Mini’s had three successful rides. The winner was Briggsdale, CO cowboy Jonathan Malovich, who finished with a 73-point ride.
The three older divisions required rides of at least eight seconds for a score.
In the Senior Mini’s Jackson’s Brody Hasenack out-did 15 other competitors to win the buckle. His qualified ride was a 76-point effort that tied the top mark of the night.
Hasenack said his ride felt great.
“I’m just glad God put me in this position, allowed me to have just a qualified ride. I didn’t expect to win this. I came here with a mindset to ride, and I’m glad that I did.”
This was his first trip to Laramie Jubilee Days.
Cheyenne’s Lane Thompson had the best ride in the Juniors Division with a score of 70. He beat out Tyler Kippes of Ault, CO, who had a 69.
The Seniors Division had only two successful rides. Carpenter, WY cowboy Connor Cathcart won the buckle with a 76.
Cathcart said his trip went pretty well.
“He had a pretty good hop out there that first jump. Reset my hips pretty good. It was a really fun ride. He kind of rocked me away from my hand, but luckily went the other way, and I hustled my butt off. It was cool, had fun.”
Cathcart said this was his first buckle, and he was pretty excited about it.
