Last week the Laramie River got to its highest mark of the year 5.8 feet above normal. So far it seems to be not as high as last year. Last year’s flood, along with 4 days of heavy spring rain corresponding with high snow melt say water levels reach 6.7 feet above normal. Despite surging, the Laramie River has not flooded any property or infrastructure yet, Chuck Murrieta, a spokesman for the Albany County Emergency Management Agency, said. The Laramie River is expected to remain at about 5.5 feet for the rest of the week.

The Laramie River overran its banks causing a stir in West Laramie, this past weekend. Flood warning caused volunteers to sand bag the river banks and by the end of the day disaster had pasted! No injuries were reported and the expected flood waters are slowly subsiding, thankfully!

Disaster averted for another year hopefully! This year more effort was taken in-advance so thank the city and volunteers for their efforts.

Laramie River flooding is nothing new this time of year as seen in this historic photo of the Wyoming Territorial Prison and one taken this morning.
