What Are We Drinking

Do you know what you are drinking when you turn on the water tap in Laramie? Just how does water get to you and why should you be confident of the quality of the water?

As part of Clean Drinking Water Appreciation Month, Albany County Clean Water Advocates are sponsoring a talk Wednesday, October 24th at the Albany County Library (310 S. 8th Street) titled “What Are We Drinking.” Derek Teini, AICP, Laramie Planning Manager and Darren Parkin, Laramie Water Resources Administrator bring their expertise, involvement with the water sources and delivery system, and knowledge of the history to the question of how Laramie provides quality drinking water. Light refreshments will be offered from 6:30 PM and the talk will begin at 7:00 PM.

Mr. Teini is originally from Sheridan, received his bachelor’s degree in geology and masters in planning from the University of Wyoming. He started as an intern and has worked for the City of Laramie Planning Department for over 12 years. He has been a key figure in many major projects within the community including Laramie's Comprehensive Plan, Aquifer Protection Plan, Cirrus Sky Technology Park, and Unified Development Code.

Mr. Parkin is originally from Wheatland and holds a Geology degree from the University of Wyoming. He worked for the Wyoming State Engineer's Office for almost 15 years in both the Surface Water and Ground Water Divisions as well as serving as a Hydrogapher/Commissioner for the Laramie River drainage. Having now worked for the City for over 5 years, he is responsible for the management of the City-owned Monolith Ranch, the implementation of the Casper Aquifer Protection Plan and the Environmental Advisory Committee.
