BUSY WEEKEND AHEAD AT HAPPY JACK

February 10 and 11th will be extremely busy at Happy Jack. Laramie High School is hosting a Nordic Ski meet at the Happy Jack Nordic Ski Area on Friday, February 10th and Saturday the 11th. The race is expected to draw approximately 150 competitors from 7 teams across the state as well as spectators. Laramie Junior High School will be hosting a race after the High School race on Saturday and is expected to draw 200 competitors.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, February 10 – Skiers and busses will arrive by 9 and the race will run from 12 – 3 pm.
Saturday, February 11th – Skiers will arrive by 7:30 and the race will begin at 9:00 and be over by noon. The Junior High Race will begin at noon.

Parking during these events will be limited. In order to accommodate school buses, race officials, and volunteers, spectators will be asked to park at the Summit Rest Area. Albany County School District will provide a shuttle bus to take spectators to and from the Summit Parking lot on both Friday and Saturday. Happy Jack parking lot (rather than Tie City) might be a good alternative for snow bikers and other users who want to try to get on the multi-use trails while the Nordic races are going on.

The Laramie High School Nordic Team is respectfully asking citizen skiers to avoid Happy Jack during these busy times. Although citizen skiers will not be prohibited on the race course, the presence of skiers and dogs on the course will impede racers. This Friday and Saturday might be a great day to take your dog and skies to Chimney Park, or to plan accordingly to miss the huge influx of high school and junior high competitors.
