Need a little off the top? Or going for a whole new look? Cut your hair short, but don’t cut your wallet short. With several cost-effective hair salons in town, you are sure to be able to find a better deal for your hair (and wallet). However, it might require a little patience on your part, so tell your hair to slow down its growing.

  • Cost Cutters

Cost Cutters provides the most regular hair cut specials in town. Every Tuesday is $10 Tuesday at Cost Cutters. No appointment is needed, but business does pick up a bit on Tuesday. In addition to their $10 Tuesday deal, Cost Cutters occasionally sends out mailings with coupons for $8 haircuts, as well as coupons for other hair deals like coloring or highlights. If you’re a bit more into technology and don’t mind receiving extra e-mails, you can sign up for an online reminder service that prompts you when it’s time for your next haircut and sends you coupons. Finally, you can check the monthly specials online. Unfortunately, this month’s specials are for products only.

  • Smart Style

After picking up your groceries, you can take some weight off your shoulders by taking off a few inches. Smart Style, locate in Walmart, provides a few (but not many) ways to save on your haircuts. Smart Style’s monthly specials can be found online. This month’s special is a complete make-over including a shampoo, seven foils, and a haircut for $44. They also have several product specials. Smart Style also has an online “insider profile” that send you e-mails about offers and promotions, as well as style tips.

  • Great Clips

Great Clips offers great ways to get your hair cuts for less. Great Clips periodically sends out mailings, as well as puts advertisements and coupons in the Branding Iron and Boomerang. Typically, most haircut coupons are for $8 haircuts, which is a steep discount on the normally $15 price tag. Great Clips also has a variety of online offers, one of which includes the possibility of winning free haircuts for a year. Like the other two cost-effective hair places in town, Great Clips has an online sign up for e-mail promotions.

  • Do It Yourself

Finally, if an $8 haircut seems a like it is a bit out of your budget, or if you are feeling a little bit creative, you can always ask a friend to cut your hair. With the proliferation of Youtube, consumers can now try their hand at learning services that they would normally have to pay for. There are several videos listed below for how to cut both men’s and women’s hair. However, I wouldn’t recommend trying anything too complicated. I have a spotty track record with cutting other’s hair. Sometimes it turns out great, and sometimes my friends regret putting their trust in my very limited knowledge (like the time I shaved off half of one of my friend’s side burns….). So if you are feeling a bit adventurous, try letting your friends cut your hair, but make sure you have a coupon close by incase you need to go get a fix- up the next day.
