A Wyoming man died Monday night after a head-on collision which may have been the result of a heart attack.

Jerry Yates, 79, was southbound in a pickup truck at about 8:20 p.m. Monday on WY 414 near milepost 97, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says, while another vehicle was northbound in the opposite lane.

A crash report cites witnesses who claimed Yates’ pickup slowly went into the left-turn lane without activating any turn signal. Yates’ pickup appeared to make a left turn in front of the oncoming vehicle, and the two collided head-on.

According to the crash report, EMT statements indicated Yates may have been in cardiac arrest, causing him to turn in front of the oncoming vehicle.

Yates was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers are investigating the possible medical condition as a contributing factor.

A second person involved in the crash was injured. They have not been identified, and no update on their condition was available Tuesday.

The road was dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.
