Your Question:

The first 1/2 of the Grand Ave. project has went quite well and now they are well on their way to completing the second. My question is concerning the prep work of the dirt. The first 1/2 had what looked almost like a rototiller on steroids go up and down Grand several times followed by graders and compactors. On this second 1/2 I have not seen that machine in use at all. Is this due to a dead line? Why would one side need so much more prep work than the other when the whole street was a mess?

The City's Answer:

The asphalt was removed with the rotomill week before last.  The rotomill was used on Tuesday to loosen and mix the base material.  They ran the reclaimer (an over grown rototiller) which mixes emulsified asphalt into the base on Friday.  They got all of the north side done in 6 hours.  The process was the same as on it was on the south side, it just went faster on Friday.  Saturday and Monday were used to compact & shape the base and the hot mix pavement was started today.
