Ask The City: Lighted Crosswalk

The Question:

Is there any chance of providing a lighted crosswalk and crosswalk signage (a la that near the ARK) across 30th near the hospital so UW students can more safely cross the street to their apartments and the hospital? Most traffic exceeds the posted speed limit of 30mph. It is very dangerous to cross, especially at night due to a lack of appropriate street lighting.

“The City is preparing to request design of a new traffic signal at the intersection of 30th Street and Willett Drive. The new signal and accompanying street geometry changes will include measures to enhance pedestrian safety. At this time our goal is to install the signal either this fall, weather and scheduling permitting, or next spring at the latest.”
