Albert Steiner and Greg Schabron Talk State Titles [VIDEOS]
For the sixth straight year the third Saturday in October belonged to the Laramie Plainsmen cross country team.
Last Saturday in Sheridan on the V.A. Hospital ground, Laramie conquered all 4A competition for a sixth consecutive boys’ team championship in class 4A. LHS won by 45 points over runner-up Natrona thanks to their top five runners placing among the top 17 runners.
Leading the charge was senior Albert Steiner, who beat senior teammate and defending champion Philip Henry by six seconds. Steiner’s victory marked a fifth straight year that the Plainsmen also had an individual title winner in the 4A boy’s division.
Steiner visited with KOWB’s David Settle about his third career state title, the team crown and more.
Head coach Greg Schabron just completed his 10th season at the helm. He’s overseen the program on its ascension to the top of 4A cross country and has a lot to be proud of. Schabron also visited with Mr. Settle, as they discussed not only the boys’ title, Steiner’s win, but also keeping it going and the runner-up finish by the Lady Plainsmen.
The Plainsmen lose four of their top seven runners, while the Laramie girls’ return their entire team that competed at state for 2018.
