While Green River snapped a 43-year title drought at the Class 3A girls’ swimming and diving state championships, a few more storylines were created last Saturday.

Sublette County senior Isabella Romasko showed some emotion after winning her first state diving championship. Romasko finished third during her junior year in 2019. After putting in some more time and work, she scored 353.45 points and captured the 2020 crown. Romasko and her diving coach with the Sublette County program, Sharon Bien, talked with WyoPreps about the state title, her emotions, that extra work, and how it pushed her to the top. Coach Bien spoke to her pupil’s improvement and dedication and how proud and happy she was for Romasko.

Buffalo’s Makenna Lambert won two events in a fairly convincing fashion. The junior touched the wall first in the 200 IM over three seconds (2:13.61) ahead of her closest competition. Later in the meet, she won the 100 freestyle by over a second (53.23). Lambert then anchored the victorious 200 free relay that set a new 3A state record with a winning time of 1:40.69. The Bison added a third place in the 400 free relay. Lambert also swam anchor in that event. Lambert spoke to WyoPreps about some nerves entering the meet but that her effort paid off, her key in each event, and how the team faired.

Another star from the meet was Cody sophomore, Tara Joyce. The California transplant won both distance freestyle events. Joyce took the 200 free in 1:57.67 and won the 500 free with a time of 5:27.84. For her effort, she was selected as the 3A co-Athlete of the Year. Joyce talked to WyoPreps about her wins, adjusting to competing in Wyoming, competing at altitude, how the Fillies performed as a team, and more.

Joyce shared the Athlete of the Year honor with Newcastle standout Hannah Gross. In case you missed it, Green River’s Lauren Jensen was the 3A Athlete of the Meet. The 3A Coach of the Year honor went to Green River’s Colleen Seiloff, while the 3A Assistant Coach of the Year was Powell’s, Heather Christensen.
