Graduate Drew Van Maanen is the latest former Wyoming football player to become part of the Hampshire Honor Society.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced its latest members Wednesday.

Van Maanen was the starting fullback for the Pokes over the past four seasons and received his bachelor’s degree in social science last December. He maintained a 3.36 cumulative grade point average in the classroom. Van Maanen was also a four-time Academic All-Mountain West selection from 2014-17. He was a team captain last season was the Wyoming recipient of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Humanitarian Award in 2017.

Van Maanen earned high praise from head coach Craig Bohl in a released statement from UW.

“Drew was an outstanding leader for our football team and exemplified everything you look for in a student-athlete. He excelled on the football field and in the classroom. Drew was a selfless teammate, and set a great example for our younger players to follow. He is a great representative of Cowboy Football, the university and the state of Wyoming.”

Van Maanen played in 51 career games, and in addition to starting at fullback, was also the long snapper last year for the Pokes.

He is one 1,253 players from 303 schools across all divisions of college football that qualified for membership in the Hampshire Honor Society. To qualify for selection, a college football player must achieve a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must meet all NCAA or NAIA progress toward degree requirements, must have been a starter or significant contributor to their team and must have completed their playing eligibility.

This marks the 11th time in 12 years that Wyoming’s had at least one player selected to the Hampshire Honor Society.

Van Maanen participated in Wyoming's Pro Day on March 23, as he tries to pursue the possibility of playing professionally.
