The 2022 Wyoming High School State Cross Country Championships return to Ethete for the title races hosted by Wyoming Indian High School on Saturday.

In Class 2A, seven of the top ten finishers from 2021 return in the girls’ field. For the boys, seven runners who placed in the top ten a year ago are back, including the three-time defending state champion Grant Bartlett of Saratoga. He will try for a career sweep, or four-peat, of the 2A title on Saturday.

In 3A, both champions from 2021 will have a shot to repeat in 2022. That would be Ava Stafford from Cody and Owen Burnett of Mountain View. On the lady’s side, only five of the top ten are back from last year. The boys’ field features six returners from 2021’s top ten finishers.

The 4A girls’ field has only four of last year’s top ten returning. Half (or five) of the top ten is back on the boys’ side. Two runners from Star Valley that placed in the top ten of Class 3A last year will now be in the 4A boys’ field this year.

The course records were set earlier this year, when Wyoming Indian High School hosted the Chief Nations Invitational on Sept. 10, 2022. The girls’ course record is by Ryann Smith of Rawlins at 19:17.8. The boys’ record belongs to Owen Burnett of Mountain View. He ran the course in 16:11.5.
