This week, you'll be able to catch 3 exhibitions at the UW Art Museum, as museum workers say "farewell" to on exhibit, and welcome two others.

Journeys Along The Sepik River: Tribal Art From Papua New Guinea, an exhibit that opened last March, is wrapping things up, and will close this week.  It features tribal art gathered during a recent expedition to New Guinea.  The final day to view the exhibit is August 18th.

Emilio Sanchez and Bold Strokes and Finesse: The Stage Designs of John Ezell will open Saturday August 18th.

A release from the University of Wyoming describes the Emilio Sanchez exhibit as using a "brilliant color palette combined with strong plays of light and shadow."  Sanchez was born in Cuba in 1929, and his pieces show a stylized imagery, revealing "the abstracted stillness of manufactured environments."

 

The exhibit for the American born John Ezell, will cater to art lovers and fans of the stage.  According

to the release, Ezell has created stage designs for well-known and little-seen plays by many notable American Dramatists.  His designs and productions have been seen in venues such as the Ney Youk Shakespeare Festival, The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, and The Lyric Opera in Chicago.  The exhibit is sponsored by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, the UW Eminent Artist Series and the UW Museum.

 

Other exhibits currently at the UW Art Museum:

-American Regionalism: Selections from the Art Museum Collection will be on exhibition until December 21st.

-Interstitial: Between Earth and Sky will be on exhibition until December 21st.

The UW Art Museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm.   Admission is free.
