Blake Moore, Harrison Yates and Marshall Stuart received post-season honors from the Wyoming AA Legion baseball head coaches Monday.

Moore and Yates were named First Team All-State, while Stuart earned Second Team All-State for the 2016 season. This is the second straight season Yates received recognition, while it’s the first for Moore and Stuart.

Laramie manager Brandon Ruckman thought it was great for the program.

“To get those kind of honors is a great achievement for all three of them. To be ranked with the top 36 players in the state of Wyoming is pretty special.”

After earning Second Team All-State a year ago, Yates moved up to the top tier. He led the Rangers in hits (54), RBI’s (43) and runs scored (43). Yates totaled 23 extra base hits with 12 doubles, eight triples and three home runs, which led the squad in all three categories. He hit .348 with nine stolen bases. Yates also registered a 3-6 record with a 5.98 ERA as a pitcher. He led the team with 68 strike-outs, started team high 12 games and threw the most innings on the year at 52.2.

Ruckman said Harrison didn’t quite have the average, but excelled elsewhere.

“Those hits that he did get were very productive. They were the kind of hits that got the team going. Not only that, but he turned into one of our better pitchers. I mean, his record wasn’t that great this season, but he had quite a few strike-outs, which was quite a bit comparatively to a lot of pitchers in the state.”

Blake Moore led the Laramie Rangers with a .362 average and finished second with 51 hits in 41 games played. He finished second with 40 runs scored and had 25 RBI’s, which tied for fourth. Moore added ten stolen bases. He became the Rangers regular lead-off hitter about ten games into the season. Moore was the primary starting shortstop and appeared in 11 games on the mound with a pair of starts.

Ruckman said, “Blake, number one, he just turned into a great lead-off hitter for us. He hit pretty high this season.”

Stuart hit for a .356 average this season with 41 RBI’s, which left him second on the squad in both categories. He had 47 total hits, including 18 extra base hits. Stuart led Laramie with 13 stolen bases. He also appeared in 16 games on the mound with seven starts. Stuart went 3-2 with a 3.14 ERA. He threw 42.1 innings with 39 strike-outs.

Ruckman mentioned the coaches were impressed with his stats.

“He hit very well for us, as far as, he had a lot of power and just was a veteran figure for us. Every time he was on the mound I felt like we had a chance to compete with anybody.”

The Rangers finished the season with a 20-29 record.

The Wyoming Legion baseball head coaches honored 36 players with All-State accolades on two teams. State champion Cheyenne Post 6 led the way with five First Team honorees. Gillette had four and state runner-up Sheridan finished with three players on the First Team.
