Three people -- two of them teenagers -- were killed Tuesday night in a crash two miles north of Lander.

The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of family. But the Wyoming Highway Patrol says in a press release the victims were an 18-year-old Lander man, a 20-year-old man from Greybull and a 15-year-old girl from Hudson.

They all died at the scene near mile post 84 on Wyoming Highway 789 at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The three victims were traveling together northbound in a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV, which the Patrol says failed to properly negotiate a left-hand curve in the highway as the SUV drifted to the east.

The SUV was reportedly overcorrected, sending it into a counter-clockwise spin. The SUV spun into the southbound lanes of the highway, where it collided with a southbound 1993 Chevrolet Silverado.

Investigators are looking at excessive speed and driver inattention as contributing factors in the crash.

The victims were the 16th, 17th and 18th people killed on Wyoming highways in 2017. The same time period in 2016 saw 10 highway deaths statewide.
