An ordinance to decriminalize marijuana within the city of Cheyenne failed to pass a second reading on a 6 to 3 vote during Monday night's City Council meeting.

Cheyenne Animal Control is reminding pet owners to leash and pick up after their dogs.

Vice Mayor Ray Pacheco proposed postponing the vote until the regular council meeting on Feb. 16.

The council passed on first the changes to the municipal ordinance about "offenses against human decency."

The defeat of the proposed revisions to the tobacco ordinance means the City of Casper is out of sync with state law.

The ordinance will end when the statewide orders are canceled or on Sept. 1, whichever comes first.

The city previously prohibited using or selling fireworks within the city limits at any time of year.

Mayor Kenyne Humphrey said she wants to revisit the matter at a future work session to refine the language of the resolution.

Mayor Andrea Summerville said the city council wanted more information on certain aspects of the proposed ordinance before they moved forward with the second reading.

The ordinance would make it illegal to fire employees or refuse to provide housing or other services on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
