Between February 3rd, 2019 and overnight into February 4th, Wyoming experienced an unusual split in temperatures.

Cheyenne, for example experienced an overnight low in the mid to low 30's.

But just up Interstate 25 Wheatland was in the lower teens.

Travel up a bit more and Casper dropped below zero.

It was far colder north of there, with Sheridan checking in at around -6.

The worst of it might have been found near Devil's Tower which dropped down to around -17 overnight.

Temperatures varied but overall a bubble of arctic cold air moved across the region cutting the state in half around that bubble.

Imagine leaving Cheyenne, wearing a light sweater, then putting on a coat just a few miles up the road, then several layers a few miles later. Then just a few miles after that it reaches the point where you refuse to even get out of the car.
