More than 200 nonperishable food items were recently collected by University of Wyoming students for the Laramie Soup Kitchen.  The effort was part of the fourth annual National Day of Service.

The Spooky Sprint, a canned food drive with a fun twist, has been sponsored for the past six years by UW’s Service, Leadership, and Community Engagement office (SLCE).  For this year’s day of service–also known as Make a Difference Day–members of the SLCE Street Team and the UW Multicultural Student Leadership Initiative collaborated with other UW students in collecting over 150 pounds of nonperishable food.

“Our participants were really wonderful and helped us collect a lot of food that will get donated to the Laramie Soup Kitchen,” says SLCE Street Team Intern Morganne Harper.  “The Spooky Sprint had a great turnout.”

The Spooky Sprint involves participants dressing up in costumes and trick-or-treating for donations of boxed or canned food through neighborhoods adjacent to UW.  Shopping carts to help collect the donations were provided to students by Ridley’s Family Market.
