RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Graduate student Erin Sargent and senior Caitlyn Skavdahl paced the way for the Wyoming Golf team on Tuesday following the first two rounds of play at the 2021 Mountain West Championship.

The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,270-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.

In a very competitive field, Sargent led the Cowgirls on day one at the tournament, posting a four-over 76 to sit in a tie for 20th after one round of play.

She followed that up with a three-over, 75 and heads in to the final round tied for 18th with a two-round score of 151 (+7). Skavdahl finished up her first round of play right behind with a five-over 77 to tie for 26th. She turned in the same score for a two round total of 154 (+10) to sit in a tie for 28th.

"We had very solid play from Caitlyn (Skavdahl) and Erin (Sargent) today on an LPGA Championship level course. They played calculated and confident all day," head coach Josey Stender said. "We play in one of the deepest non power five conference in the nation and I felt we held our own during the second round. I was also extremely pleased with Samantha Hui's rally in the second 18 to help the team improve in the scoring column. The team is going to come out fighting tomorrow and give everything they have to finish strong."

Sophomore Cristiana Ciasca recorded a first-round ten-over, 82, to tie for 38th.  She turned in an eight-over 80 for a two-round combined score of 18-over (162), which is tied for 39th.  Fellow sophomore Samantha Hui was one shot back after carding an 11-over, 83, followed by a season-best two-over, 74 second round to sit in a tie for 32nd (+13, 157).

Freshman Jessica Zapf opened up her first MW Championship with a 17-over, 89, and improved to 13-over, 86, for a two-round total of 31-over (175) which is 45th.

The Cowgirls carded a 48-over 624 including a second-round 18-over, 306. They are in ninth place through the first 36 holes going into the final day of the championship.

The 47th ranked San Diego State Aztecs are leading the way (582, +6) followed by 46th ranked New Mexico (593, +17) and Fresno State (593, +17) all tied up in second. San Diego State's Sara Kjellker is the top individual with a two-under (142) after two rounds.

The Cowgirls will tee off for the final round of the Mountain West Championship on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. MT.
