I feel like a broken record at this point, making mention that the warmer months are ahead of us. It's like I'm standing in front of a crystal ball saying all these things are coming up as we have 65 miles per hour winds and 40-degree temps that feel like 20. But, I digress.

One of the fun events that also serves as a huge fundraiser for our pals at Needs Inc. Food Pantry is already taking in registrations for the Firecracker 5k. You can probably guess when the Firecracker 5k is. I'll wait. Just kidding, it's on July 2nd. This is the 6th version of the 5k.

If you're looking to register, you can do that here. They also, again are offering three different options, a 5k, 10k, and virtual. Prices vary between the three options with the 5k fee being $35, the 10k is $45, and the virtual run is $40.

The race itself starts and ends at the Depot Plaza. The course goes around town, up the viaduct, and back. My quads hurt thinking about going up that hill, but you're probably in better running shape than I am. I don't make it much past a 6 percent incline on a treadmill.

Needs Inc. Food Pantry does a lot of good and serves tons of families across Cheyenne and Laramie County. With the news last week of the United Way cutting funds to partners, Needs Inc. was affected as they were one of the partners. With that being said, let's try and make the Firecracker 5k the biggest fundraiser Needs Inc. has ever had so they can make up for that shortfall!
