One Week After Mask Mandate, LCSD1 COVID Numbers Relatively Unchanged
One week after Laramie County School District 1 issued an addendum to its Smart Start Plan requiring masks to be worn in schools while the county is at substantial or high risk for community transmission of COVID-19, the district's numbers remain relatively unchanged.
From Friday, Sept. 10, through Thursday, Sept. 16, the district reported that 80 students and 10 staff members had tested positive for COVID-19. The prior week, Sept. 3-9, the district reported 71 student and 18 staff cases.
Since classes began on Aug. 23, 1,317 students and staff have been quarantined. Currently, one staff member and 316 students are in quarantine.
"I sincerely thank each and every student, staff member and family member for wearing their mask," Superintendent Dr. Margaret Crespo said in an update posted on the district's website Thursday.
"We absolutely recognize that these are challenging times," she added. "Our goal is to stay in school for in-person learning and I am confident that working together for the health and safety of our students and staff we can do it."
As of Thursday, Laramie County had 242 lab-confirmed active COVID-19 cases, according to the Wyoming Department of Health.
