New UW Bus Route Starts September 2
A new Campus Commuter bus route begins at the University of Wyoming Tuesday, Sept. 2, replacing both the Campus Shuttle and Classroom Express routes.
The new Campus Commuter route will offer eastbound and westbound transit service to key areas on campus, such as: Wyoming Union, Classroom Building, Wyoming/McWhinnie halls, residence halls, Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, Lodgepole and Sundance, Spanish Walk, the 30th and Willett Express Lot, as well as the long-term parking lot for students. After 6:30 p.m., the Campus Commuter will stop at the South Shuttle Lot, which has not been accessible in the evening in previous years.
“The Campus Commuter shuttle will offer more frequent service than previous campus shuttles, stopping every 10 minutes going in both east- and westbound directions during the daytime hours and every 30 minutes from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.,” says Paul Kunkel, UW Transit and Parking Services manager. “Given the high frequency of buses on this route during the day, there will be no set time schedule; the buses will simply arrive approximately every 10 minutes. As with all university fixed-route shuttles, there is no on-board fare required.”
A highlight of the new route will be a bus stop at UW’s new front door, the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center, set to open Oct. 24. A partnership among the UW Foundation, the Alumni Association, the Center for Advising and Career Services and Admissions Office, the Gateway Center will contain office and collaborative space for these units that support and promote the university. Campus tours will start at the Gateway Center with a short bus ride into campus, introducing new students to the UWYO Roundup transit system.
Other notable changes to the UWYO Roundup transit system will be two additional stops along the Union Express route. This shuttle will begin stopping at the Arena-Auditorium (upon completion of renovations in October) and the Animal Science bus stop along Willett every 7-9 minutes. The Union and South Express routes will add an additional bus throughout the day to help with increased passenger loads.
As with all university shuttle routes, riders are encouraged to use TransLoc. It provides live tracking information for all buses on route and is available for free both on the web and for most smartphone platforms. More information about TransLoc can be found at www.uwyo.edu/tap/transit/transloc.html.
