LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A new committee has been established to advise University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols on Native American affairs.

Since taking over as president, Nichols has been working to improve the relationship between the state's only public, four-year university and Native Americans.

Nichols says the Advisory Committee on Native American Affairs will help reach out to prospective students on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

The seven-member committee includes people who are Native American or have connections to the state's Native American population.

At one recent meeting, Nichols and the committee discussed how best to conduct the grand opening of the UW Native American Education, Research and Cultural Center.
