Laramie Resident Edward Cassidy got quite the surprise when he was greeted by a bull moose in his back yard this morning.

Cassidy, who lives on Sherman Hills Road in Laramie, said the excitement didn’t last long. Shortly after, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department came and darted the moose and is preparing to relocate it.

Game and Fish Warden Rick King said the moose appeared to be making his way towards town and posed a potential safety hazard, which is why wardens tranquilized the animal around 9 a.m. today.

King said Game and Fish is preparing to locate the moose to a more suitable area.

“We are going to take him to the Sierra Madres, south and west of Encampment,” King said. “There’s great moose habitat over there. Much better than the Sherman Hills subdivision.”

King said if Laramie residents encounter wild animals in their back yards, they should call the Laramie Regional Game and Fish Office, the Laramie Police Department or the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.
