Man Charged in Tow Truck Death
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — A Gillette man charged with driving a pickup that struck and killed a tow-truck operator has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will have his case moved to district court.
The Associated Press reports 28-year-old Justin Lynn Helsper is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide stemming from the Nov. 18 death of 65-year-old Larry G. Schofield. Helsper already has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of speeding, failure to maintain a single lane of travel and drunken driving.
Schofield, also of Gillette, was struck on Interstate 90 while trying to load a disabled minivan onto a tow truck.
A breath test taken almost six hours after the wreck showed Helsper's blood alcohol content to be 0.254 percent, more than three times the legal limit for driving.
