Cheyenne Police are warning people about a new phone scam in which the intended victim's own phone number will show up on caller ID as an incoming call.

The caller will claim that your bank account has been suspended and that you must verify your account information with them. It's really just another scheme for scammers to get access to your personal financial information. Police are warning people to hang up and not answer the call at all.

The fact that a local or Wyoming phone number shows up on your caller ID no longer means the call is from the state. Using ''spoofing" techniques, which generate phony phone numbers, callers can make it appear calls are from nearby numbers when they are not.
