Laramie’s Alexis Manley won two state titles that highlight the Laramie High School rodeo clubs' weekend at the state finals in Rock Springs.

Manley was one of several cowgirls and cowboys from the area that performed very well last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Manley won the first go in breakaway roping with a time of 3.00. She also won the qualifying or finals round on Saturday in 2.77 seconds. That gave Manley the breakaway roping average crown with a total time of 18.59 seconds on three head.

In addition to breakaway, Manley excelled in goat tying with a fifth and sixth place finish in the first round and finals on Saturday, respectively. She took ninth in the average.

After the season-long point’s standings were concluded, Manley was atop the leaderboard in both events and will compete in both at the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in Rock Springs July 15-21, 2018.

Kayson Dory made a late-season push, which included some top-notch efforts at the state finals, and he’ll be in the NHSFR next month, as well. Dory finished third in the standings for saddle bronc riding. He won the first and second rounds with scores of 64 and 73 and placed second in the average. Those results pushed him to third place with 128.50 points.

There are two other NHSFR qualifiers from Laramie in brothers Garrett and Colter Nunn, who finished first and second, respectively in the light rifle shooting competition. Garrett edged his younger brother by 3.50 points. Both have had success in this event in the past.

Other notable performances came from McKenna Clingman (3rd) Brooke Worman (8th) in goat tying, Garrett Nunn (10th) in tie-down calf roping and Kirby Hales (5th) in team roping with his partner Brody Peterson from Sheridan. Those were their results for the average on three last weekend.

For the season, Worman came in fifth in goat tying and is the alternate to the NHSFR next month. If one of the top four can't go or compete for some reason, Brooke would take their place.

There were some individuals that produced top 10 results in one or two rounds of action, as well. These included Chase Stricklin in steer wrestling, Hadley Koske in pole bending, the Nunn brothers in team roping and Kaitlynn Idler in goat tying and breakaway roping.
