Laramie Rec Center Pool Reopening Soon
As the snow threatens Laramie, one form of indoor recreation is almost complete: the renovation of the Laramie Recreation Center pool.
The pool is currently on schedule for a Monday, Oct. 16 reopening date, said Recreation Manager Jodi Guerin, with a completion date of Friday, Oct. 13.
Also on schedule is the fall Punkin’ Dunkin’ pool event and accompanying festival slated for Friday, Oct. 20. Guerin said confirmation of those dates will occur in the near future.
The leisure pool’s play feature was upgraded as well as the plaster in the pool. Both items were originally installed when the recreation center opened in 2004. A new fence will also be installed on the pool deck to separate the leisure pool from the 8-lane pool. “Any time there’s access to water, we have to have lifeguards,” Geurin explained, so the fence's purpose is to “allow independent open and closure of the two pools.”

The Recreation Center is also upgrading its lighting system, from fluorescent bulbs to LED lighting. The LED lights are cleaner and more efficient and are expected to save the city thousands in energy costs.
Assistant City Manager Todd Feezer presented the numbers to the City Council in August and said the lighting upgrade at the Recreation Center should save $3,302 a year in electrical costs. The Ice and Events Center is receiving the same lighting upgrade, expected to save the city an additional $3,217 annually.
