Laramie Rangers Split With Bears

After letting the first game slip away, the Laramie Rangers dominated the nightcap to earn a split of their double dip against the Radioactive Bears Tuesday at Cowboy Field.

The Bears held off Laramie 11-10 in game one, but the Rangers came back and rolled to a 12-0 win in game two. The game was stopped after the top of the fifth inning thanks to the ten-run mercy rule.

In the first game, Laramie jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Rangers scored four runs in the first, highlighted by Reid Baty’s two-run double. Baty followed with another RBI-double in a three-run third.

Radioactive answered with six runs in the fourth. After a run in the fifth, the Bears never relinquished the lead.

The Rangers had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth, but managed only one run. They got the tying run to second base in the seventh, but a strike-out ended the game.

Laramie used five pitchers in the game. Harrison Yates took the loss on the hill. They hurt themselves with four errors on defense. Offensively, the Rangers were led by Nate Hill and Kacey Bernaski with three hits apiece. Baty finished with four RBI.

Game two saw Laramie in control from the start. They exploded for nine runs in the second inning in route to a 12-0 victory in 4.5 innings.

Baty and Wes Yerty combined to allow only two hits and one walk. Baty got the win on the mound.

The Rangers took full advantage of 15 walks issued by the four Bears pitchers. Drew Burman had a pair of hits, two RBI and three stolen bases to lead the offense.

Laramie is now 9-11 on the season. They return to the diamond Wednesday for an ‘A’ Southeast Conference twinbill against the Torrington Tigers. It begins at 5 p.m. at Cowboy Field.
