After a pair of wins to open a tournament in North Platte, NE, the Laramie Rangers dropped their finals two games against the host team to split their weekend.

Laramie opened the 2014 Great Plains Health Jr/Sr Tournament with a 13-3 win in five innings over Edgar, NE. The Rangers held a 7-0 lead after the top of the third inning. They added a run in the fourth. Then, Laramie closed it out with a five-run fifth.

The Rangers had 13 hits as a team, with each player recording at least one hit apiece. Taylor Dodd and Harrison Yates had two hits and two RBI to lead the attack. Kacey Bernaski went the distance on the mound for the victory. He allowed only two earned runs on six hits. Bernaski walked three and struck out six.

In their first game on Saturday, Laramie rallied for an 8-6 win over Ogallala, NE. The Rangers scored six runs in the final two innings for their second straight win.

Marshall Stuart hit the go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning. Stuart was also the winning pitcher in relief of starter Reid Baty.

Laramie dropped their second game Saturday to the host North Platte First Nationals 11-1 in five innings.

North Platte got out to a 6-0 lead and closed out the game with five runs in the fifth.

Nate Hill started and took the loss on the mound. Yates led the offense with two hits and an RBI.

In the finale of the tournament on Sunday, the Rangers took on North Platte again. Laramie dropped the game by a final score of 4-3.

The Rangers trailed 3-0, but battled back for a 3-3 tie thanks to RBI hits from Bernaski and Nathan Burman. In the bottom of the sixth, the First Nationals plated the go-ahead run on a bases loaded walk.

Laramie (12-17) was scheduled to play McCook, NE in a single 9-inning game today, but that got rained out. The Rangers return to Cowboy Field for a doubleheader Tuesday against the Westco Zephyrs from Scottsbluff, NE at 5 p.m.
