Laramie QB Battle is a Friendly Competition

The battle for the starting quarterback job on the 2019 Laramie Plainsmen football team continues at least through this week and perhaps next week, as well.

Junior Garrett Dodd and sophomore Jake Vigen are in the running for the starting spot to replace Jason Upton, who graduated as part of the Class of 2019.

Laramie head coach Clint Reed said he’s been splitting reps for both QBs with the No. 1 offense during Fall Camp as the competition continues.

In the video above, Dodd and Vigen visited with KOWB’s David Settle about the battle, their friendship, Fall Camp in general for LHS, and some of their favorite things.

Dodd appeared at quarterback in five of the Plainsmen’s 10 games last year. He was 8-22 for 88 yards passing with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Dodd ran 14 times for minus-96 yards. His most extensive playing time came in a Week 9 loss at Thunder Basin. Dodd was 6-19 for 82 yards and the two interceptions. That included a 40-yard completion to Caleb Eaton. He played the final three-quarters of that game.

Meanwhile, Vigen has no varsity experience. He quarterbacked the freshman team at LHS in 2018.

Laramie opens its 2019 season at home against the Kelly Walsh Trojans. That game is on Friday, Aug. 30 with kick-off at 6 p.m. at Deti Stadium.
