Laramie Minors All-Stars Take Second Place at Little League State Tournament
The Laramie Minors Little League All-Stars settled for a runner-up finish at the Wyoming Little League Baseball State Tournament in Gillette last week.
Laramie was 2-2 at the state tournament and lost in the championship game to Torrington, 10-0.
After a second-place finish in the Wyoming Little League East District Tournament, Laramie was back in Gillette for a second straight week.
Laramie opened the state tournament with an 11-1 victory over Bridger Valley Little League. It was 3-0 when Laramie scored seven runs in the third to break the game open. Will Voos had three hits and drove in one run in the victory. Jacob Sanchez and Michael Peterson combined to allow three hits over four innings with eight strikeouts.
Last Thursday, Torrington beat Laramie 5-0 in a winner’s bracket game. They scored one run in the first inning, three in the second, and added one run in the fourth. Sanchez had two of Laramie’s three hits in the loss.
That put Laramie into an elimination game last Friday. Laramie defeated Bridger Valley for the second time, 22-7. After trailing 3-1, Laramie took the lead in the second inning with three runs. They added five more in the third and four runs in the fourth for a 13-3 lead. Laramie capped it with nine runs in the fifth inning. They had 18 hits, which included six doubles. Voos, Kyler Scozzafava, and Kaleb Strain had two hits and three RBIs apiece.
In the championship game against Torrington, Laramie fell short, 10-0. Torrington scored in four of the five innings and held Laramie to six hits. Voos had two of those, which included one double. Three walks, two hit batters, and four defensive errors hurt Laramie in the loss.
Laramie went 6-4 in the postseason. All four defeats came to Torrington, who won both the East District title and State Championship.
