Laramie All-Stars Advance With Victories At State Tournament
Both Laramie All-Star baseball teams won their first game at the Wyoming Little League State Tournament Wednesday in Torrington.
The Laramie Majors needed seven innings to top Big Horn County 3-2. The Defending State Champion Laramie Minors blew out Rock Springs 21-6 in just five innings.
Max Alexander’s go-ahead RBI-double in the top of the seventh inning proved to be the game-winner, as the Majors All-Stars survived Big Horn County in a tight one.
Laramie led 2-0 on an RBI-triple by Sam Hoyt and an error by Big Horn County. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth when Big Horn County scored on an error and a single.
James Vasek came in and got the final out of the sixth, and then worked around a pair of walks and got a strikeout to end the game.
Alexander and Hoyt led the Laramie offense with two hits apiece. Vasek got the win in relief.
The Majors All-Stars will play Gillette at 4 p.m. Thursday. They survived Lander, 9-8, in eight innings. Big Horn County will take on Lander at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.
The Laramie Minors All-Stars rolled to their victory over Rock Springs. They led 9-0 after two innings before Rock Springs made a small comeback. Laramie’s lead was trimmed to 9-5 thanks to four walks, an error, a hit batter, and a single.
The Minors All-Stars responded with 12 runs in the next two innings and closed out the game early due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Laramie had a 15-hit attack led by Jackson Rehor with four hits, including a double, and four RBI’s. Quade Gill added three hits, including a pair of doubles, and also four RBI’s. The Minors team also took advantage of eight walks and nine Rock Springs errors.
Maddox Dorrell started and got the win. He went just 1.1 innings and allowed no runs on one hit. Dorrell struck out three. He was one of five pitchers Laramie threw in the game.
The Minors team advances to play Cody at 4 p.m. Thursday in Torrington. Cody defeated Torrington 6-2 in the other first-round game. Rock Springs and Torrington will play in an elimination game at 1 p.m.
