The Wyoming Department of Transportation has announced the closure of Wyoming Highway 130 through the high country of the Snowy Range.

Closure Is Seasonal, Related To Weather

According to a WYDOT news release, ''Also known as the Snowy Range Scenic Byway, the 12-mile section of WYO 130 tops out at more than 10,800 ft. in elevation and closes annually each fall when lack of travel and deep snow accumulations make plowing the highway impractical.''

The release says the decision to close the highway was made by WYDOT Transportation crews in Laramie and Saratoga.

WYO 130 closed for the season on Nov. 26. Prior to that, WYO 130 closed Nov. 10 in 2022, Nov. 11 in 2021, Nov. 14 in 2020, and Oct. 29 in 2019.

WYO 130 is one of two high-elevation highways in District 1 that close for the winter,  annually, according to the release.
