The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for areas of southeast Wyoming this weekend, with up to two feet of snow possible in some mountain areas.

As of Thursday morning, the watch area did not include Cheyenne or Laramie. But the summit between Cheyenne and Laramie was included, as were many mountain areas.

The agency posted the following on its website:

Winter Storm Watches have been issued for the Sierra Madres, Snowys, and South Laramie Ranges as period of moderate to heavy snowfall is possible beginning late Friday afternoon through Sunday. 1 to 2 feet of accumulation is possible in the higher elevations of the Snowys and Sierra Madres, while areas near the I-80 Summit could see accumulations over 6 inches. Accumulating snowfall is possible for adjacent areas in Carbon and Albany County as well as along the Cheyenne Ridge that may require additional headlines. Areas across the Nebraska Panhandle will likely remain all rain as a result of the recently warmer temperatures, but could see snow mix in later on Sunday
