The mother of Angelina Harrison, the 16-year-old Cheyenne girl who was fatally shot while riding in a vehicle near Frontier Mall on Jan. 9, 2023, has started a petition to preserve her daughter's memorial in the mall parking lot.

Amanda Harrison says the mall, which is owned and managed by CBL Properties, initially allowed her family to set up the memorial as a temporary arrangement, but a couple of weeks ago informed them that it must be taken down by Sept. 30 due to mall policies.

Harrison says she tried to reason with the mall and even offered to purchase the small island the memorial sits on, but was told no.

"It does not interfere with anything or any business the mall conducts," Harrison posted on Facebook Friday afternoon. "This is a spot that Angelina’s friends and family and even the members of the community like to go and pay their respects."

That's why Harrison has started a petition (see below) asking that the mall and CBL Properties make an exception in her case.

"We believe it is crucial for Frontier Mall and CBL Property Management to recognize the significance of this memorial not just for us but for everyone who wishes to pay their respects," the petition reads.

"By allowing us to keep up this tribute on the mall premises, you will demonstrate compassion towards grieving families while fostering a sense of unity within our community."

As of 4 p.m. Friday, roughly 1,000 people had signed the petition.

Allow Us to Preserve Our Daughter's Memorial at Frontier Mall

On January 9, 2023, our lives were shattered when we tragically lost our beloved 16-year-old daughter. In the midst of unimaginable grief, we found solace in creating a memorial for her at Frontier Mall in Cheyenne, WY. This memorial has become a place where family and friends can gather to honor her memory and find comfort during these difficult times.

Frontier Mall and CBL Property Management initially allowed us to set up this memorial as a temporary arrangement. However, we have recently been informed that the memorial must be taken down due to mall policies. We understand that rules are necessary for the smooth operation of any establishment but kindly request an exception in this case.

Our daughter's passing has deeply affected not only our family but also many members of the Cheyenne community who knew and loved her. The support we have received from friends, neighbors, and even strangers has been overwhelming. It is clear that her impact reached far beyond our immediate circle.

We believe it is crucial for Frontier Mall and CBL Property Management to recognize the significance of this memorial not just for us but for everyone who wishes to pay their respects. By allowing us to keep up this tribute on the mall premises, you will demonstrate compassion towards grieving families while fostering a sense of unity within our community.

To further emphasize the importance of preserving this memorial at Frontier Mall, let us present some relevant facts:

1) Healing Power: Memorials play a vital role in helping individuals cope with loss by providing them with a physical space where they can express their emotions freely (source: American Psychological Association).

2) Community Support: Memorials often serve as gathering places where communities come together to mourn collectively and offer support (source: National Funeral Directors Association).

3) Economic Benefits: Supporting memorials can positively impact local businesses by attracting visitors who may spend time and money in the surrounding area (source: Journal of Cultural Economics).

We kindly request that Frontier Mall and CBL Property Management reconsider their decision and allow us to maintain our daughter's memorial within the mall. By doing so, you will not only honor her memory but also demonstrate your commitment to supporting grieving families in Cheyenne.

Together, let us create a lasting tribute that will provide solace, healing, and unity for all those affected by loss within our community. Sign this petition to show your support for preserving our daughter's memorial at Frontier Mall.
