The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says a wind gust of 85 miles per hour was recorded in southeast Wyoming in a 24-hour period running from 11 p.m. Monday to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Numerous other wind gusts of over 70 miles per hour were recorded in the area over the same period, while a 68 mph gust was recorded at F.E. Warren Air Force Base and another of 67 miles per hour at the Cheyenne Airport

For reference, winds of 74 miles per hour or more are considered to be "hurricane force."
