2 Arrested After Suspicious Glare Leads to Stolen Gun, Drug Stash
Laramie County Sheriff's deputies arrested two transients Friday evening after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a stolen gun and a "stash can" full of fentanyl pills.
According to arrest records, a deputy was driving westbound on West College Drive shortly before 6:50 p.m. when he noticed the occupants of a white Ford Explorer glaring at him.
When the deputy slowed to investigate, the SUV quickly pulled into a nearby trailer park.
Believing they were trying to evade contact with him, the deputy stopped to observe and saw the SUV leave the trailer park and continue westbound on West College Drive.
The deputy noticed the SUV did not have visible registration and initiated a traffic stop at the Flying J.
When asked for his license, the driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Corey Lane Brown, reportedly told the deputy that he had one but he did not have it on him.
Due to the actions and behaviors of the multiple people in the SUV, K-9 Tyr was called in to conduct an open-air sniff around the exterior of the SUV and alerted to the presence of a narcotic coming from the SUV.
The occupants were subsequently taken out of the SUV, handcuffed, and placed in separate patrol cars, and the SUV was searched.
During the search, a stolen, loaded pistol was found, which was determined to be in Brown's possession.
A make-shift Coca-Cola can with a removable top containing approximately 500 suspected blue fentanyl pills was also located on the rear passenger's side floorboard where 41-year-old Bobby Hainsworth had been sitting.
After further investigation, a male inside the vehicle stated he got into the SUV with Brown and Hainsworth and later found out they went to Denny's to sell the fentanyl pills.
Brown and Hainsworth were arrested and each booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on conspiracy drug charges.
Brown, who was previously convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, was also booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Hainsworth for felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, the two had yet to be formally charged.
