Some of the most beautiful drives in Wyoming are not advertised.

Here is a fun, slow drive that shows the beauty of the eastern Wyoming landscape, but only locals know of it.

Start by taking a drive out to Guernsey, Wyoming.

This unassuming little town is surrounded by amazing beauty and historical significance. But you need to know where to look or you'll miss it.

East of Guernsey is the Wyoming highway 270.

That will take you to Heartville: population 62 and one of the best steak houses in the state.

Turn right at the intersection to see the town.

Take your time exploring Heartville. Drive through downtown toward Sunrise, where it dead ends. Then turn around and ease your way back.

As you reenter Heartville, look for Railroad Street on your right. Take it. It will loop you up over the back side of town, where you'll be able to look down on the town.

When you reach the end of that road, you'll be back on Highway 270. Make a right.

From here, the speed limit is 65mph, with the suggestion of 55mph around sharper corners. Since I was not in a hurry and it was the weekend, I just set my cruise control to 55 and enjoyed the view.

You'll see beautiful farmland, old homesteads, and rolling hills.

Keep your head on a swivel. By that I also mean, look to see what is up on top of the hills.

This horse, rider, and dog remind me of a silhouette near Chugwater, Wyoming.

Many unusual hills, buttes, and rock formations will make you wonder how they developed over the eons.

This landscape has been forged by billions of years of constant planetary and climate change, and it shows.

Wildlife mixes with cattle as dots along the rolling grasslands.

This unusual rock formation is on the east side of the Glendo Reservoir.

It's a long, slow, winding drive to Manville. It's about 41 miles total distance.

There are plenty of places to pull over and take it all in.

I was impressed by this beautiful ranch.

There is a stand of trees between their buildings and where they chose to plant a garden.

Though I'm sure they have vegetables in there, they have planted a lot of flowers.

it was worth stopping and turning around just to take this photo.

Once you arrive in Manville, if you're hungry, there is a restaurant called Three Sisters' Truck Stop, or you can turn right and drive to Lusk, where you'll find several family diners.

Backroad Up The Bighorns

There are many ways to explore the Bighorn Mountain.

Not all of the backroads are dangerous.

Some are of good quality, and have the best views you'll ever see.
