LARAMIE -- "I thought I'd get asked about open practice?"

That's how Jay Sawvel wrapped up his traditional signing day press conference on Wednesday morning. Of course, it's a tongue-and-cheek response from Wyoming's rookie head coach.

Sawvel, unlike his predecessor, is actually going to let the media -- and fans -- watch a couple of practices this spring.

Craig Bohl is no doubt shaking his head somewhere right at this very moment.

All jokes aside, here are some important dates for Cowboys fans to know:

* Wyoming's NFL Pro Day - Tuesday, March 19

NFL hopefuls like Easton Gibbs and Frank Crum, who were both invited to the league's annual combine later this month, will go through a series of drills inside the High Altitude Performance Center and the team's indoor practice facility. NFL personnel will be on hand to watch Wyoming's graduates. You can be, too. This event is open to the public.

* Wyoming's spring practice begins - Tuesday, March 26

Coming off a 9-4 season and an Arizona Bowl championship, the Cowboys will be back at it to begin their first of 15 spring practices. While this day is closed to the public, it is the unofficial start of the 2024 season.

* Wyoming's open practice dates -- Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13

Want an up close and personal look at the Pokes? Sawvel is giving you that opportunity. The location of these workouts in Laramie is to be determined with the threat of weather and ongoing construction inside War Memorial Stadium.

* Wyoming's annual Spring Game - Saturday, April 27 (Cheyenne)

The Cowboys are hitting the road and heading to the Capital City for their annual spring game. Time and location are to be determined. Sawvel did say he is potentially open to this becoming a yearly occasion, playing at a different high school -- within reason -- around the state.

* Wyoming's season opener at Arizona State - Saturday, Aug. 31

The Cowboys will open the Sawvel era inside Sun Devil Stadium when they take on Arizona State to kickoff the 2024 campaign.

* A date for the start of fall camp has not yet been announced

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
