House Advances Measure on UW Trustees

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The state House of Representatives has given initial approval to proposals that would allow up to two nonresidents on the University of Wyoming governing board.

The House on Thursday endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment and a related bill that would allow nonresidents on the UW Board of Trustees. The two measures face two more debates on the House floor.

Currently, the UW trustees consist of 12 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The state constitution requires that all be Wyoming residents.

Proponents of the measures say UW could benefit from the knowledge and experience of successful nonresidents being on the board.

The constitutional amendment would have to be approved by Wyoming voters.
