For many, the Forest Service is seen as an organization that only does work seasonally.

Unfortunately for workers of the Forest Service though, they do in fact work year round and do not vacation six months out of the year.

Though to some they might be less visible in the winter, Forest Service employees spend much of their time grooming various cross-country ski trails and plowing parking areas at winter recreation areas.  The winter months are also important times for the Forest Service to plan ahead for the field season.

Day-to-day duties for the Forest Service can vary greatly in the winter months and are largely subject to the recreational activities that are carried out on forest lands.  National Forests are open to the public in the winter months for everything from shooting to sledding.

Work is also done year round (sometimes especially in winter) on trimming trees that are aged, dying, or at risk of falling, harming trails or roads.

Those with interest in purchasing a day-use pass for National Forest areas for the coming summer months can visit the Laramie Ranger District Office at 2468 Jackson Street in West Laramie, where they are currently being sold for $30.
