It has been said before, but with the Fourth of July just around the corner, it bears repeating: the use of personal fireworks is illegal in the City of Laramie.

Many government agencies ban the use of fireworks on the lands they oversee. Some even ban the possession of fireworks on lands they manage.

Here is a list of fireworks use restrictions:

  • U.S. Forest Service lands: No fireworks
  • Bureau of Land Management lands: No fireworks
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lands: No fireworks or possession of fireworks
  • State of Wyoming lands: No fireworks
  • Wyoming Game and Fish Department lands: No fireworks
  • Within Laramie city limits and within one half mile outside city limits: No fireworks

Fireworks can be used on private land within Albany County, but only with the explicit permission of the property owner. Fireworks are also allowed beginning one half mile outside Laramie city limits unless Albany County Commissioners have imposed fire restrictions.

Rock River has no ordinances in place restricting the use of fireworks.

News stories about people who become seriously injured through the misuse of fireworks are all too common. In order to stay safe, be sure to follow all safety recommendations when using fireworks. That means having some method of fire extinguishment nearby wherever fireworks are being used.

Information on current fire restrictions is available on the Fire Warden section of the Albany County website.

Questions can be directed to the City Manager's Office at 307-721-5226 or the Fire Marshal's Office at 307-721-5330.
