Fair Season in Laramie is Here: 120th Year
Livestock in pens; the aroma of livestock in the air, and swirls of gunpowder and grit waft by. Campers have taken over the Fairgrounds.
Fair season is upon us.
Tonight, Tuesday, July 25, the 120th Albany County Fair starts with a bang with the muzzleloader shooting contest at 6 p.m. Horse and dog shows begin Friday, at the Hansen Arena and Fairgrounds. Next week the full lineup of shows begins: showmanship, market, breeding; for the full, printable schedule, find the 2023 Albany County Fairbook here.
Fair isn’t just guns and animals, though the pocket animal show next Wednesday and the cat show next Thursday sound intriguing–there are plenty of other fun events for the family.
Family night is next Thursday, Aug. 3, starting at 4 p.m. Fun for all ages that night with the pedal tractor competition (three divisions), Over the Hill Showmanship, fashion show, and a cornhole tournament.
The Over the Hill Showmanship is a chance for the 22+ crowd to be nominated by a 4-H or FFA member to show livestock. Members can nominate anyone of their choice, be it a teacher, grandparent, neighbor, or other non-member to try their hand at showing.
Next Friday, Aug. 4 after the livestock shows is the Show Me Your Meat Smoker & BBQ contest, with live music by Eli Mosley, who recently debuted in the top 100 on the Music Row Breakout Country Music Chart with his original song “Doin’ Alright.” The show and the music will be from 6-8 p.m.
