UPDATE: Cheyenne Frontier Days Says Cancellation Posts ‘Not Official’
UPDATE 3:00 PM MAY 27, 2020
Cheyenne Frontier Days has been canceled for the first time in its 124-year history due to the coronavirus.
Cheyenne Frontier Days CEO and President Tom Hirsig took the podium Wednesday afternoon during a press conference with Wyoming governor Mark Gorden to explain the reasons behind the decisions to cancel CFD as well as the five other largest Wyoming rodeos in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Cheyenne Frontier Days spokeswoman Nicole Gamst says they're aware of Facebook posts seen early Wednesday (May 27) saying this year's event has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that's "not official news" from them.
Gov. Mark Gordon will hold a press conference at 3 p.m. today to discuss the status of large events in Wyoming this summer, and Gamst says "a lot of people's questions will be answered."
"We work with them," said Gamst. "We want to make sure that anything is coordinated through their office."
