Just in time for Wyoming’s Free Fishing Day, a popular lake in the Snowy Range is now ready for use by recreationists.

This past week, Barber Lake was both filled with water by the U.S. Forest Service and stocked with catchable fish by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

The Barber Lake area, on the Laramie Ranger District of the Medicine Bow National Forest, features a picnic area and a small body of water adjacent to Forest Road 351. The lake provides accessible fishing opportunities, and when water is available, it is annually stocked with rainbow trout.

Barber Lake is approximately 35 miles west of Laramie, Wyo. on Highway 130, near the town of Centennial. The Centennial Visitor Center and several U.S. Forest Service campgrounds are nearby, of which Pine and Willow Campgrounds are now open.

The lake is not yet at full capacity so anglers should be cautious around the edge of the water as there are steep banks and possibly loose terrain.

Both residents and nonresidents alike can fish for free with no license required all day in Wyoming on June 7. The free fishing day was authorized in 2003 by the Wyoming State Legislature and is an annual Game and Fish Department program.
